How to do it...

Follow these steps to create an Operational Intelligence dashboard:

1. Log in to your Splunk server.
2. Select the default Search & Reporting application.
3. From the menu bar, click on the Dashboards link:

1. On the Dashboards screen, click on the Create New Dashboard button:

1. The Create New Dashboard screen will pop up. Enter Website Monitoring in the Title field. The ID field will be automatically populated; leave it as it is. The Description field can be left blank for now, but ensure that the Shared in App permission is selected. Finally, click on Create Dashboard:

1. The newly created Website Monitoring dashboard will appear in the edit mode. We will add panels to the dashboard in the next few recipes. For now, just click on the Cancel button:

You have now created a blank dashboard ready to be populated with reports and visualizations.
