First, it comes from the brilliance of Su Tungpo’s own mind, stamped upon every line he wrote, like the black luster of ink in the two original bamboo paintings by Su that I have seen, which still glistens as if it were applied only an hour ago.
第一,是由于苏东坡本人心智上才华的卓越,深深印在他写的每一行诗上,正如我所看见的他那两幅墨竹上那乌黑的宝墨之光,时至今日,依然闪耀照人,就犹如他蘸笔挥毫是在顷刻之前一样。

王徽之酷爱竹子,有一次借住在朋友家,立即命人来种竹,人问其故,徽之说:“何可一日无此君。”在本诗中,此君即是竹子。
