5.9 Compressor Piping

5.9.1 Piping layout around compressor shall not interfere with compressor hoisting and maintenance,and necessary maintenance space shall be provided.

5.9.2 The suction and discharge piping of compressor shall be routed for the shortest practical run with minimum number of elbows,provided that the requirements for piping flexibility are met and forces and moments applied on compressor nozzles do not exceed the specified values.

5.9.3 Strainer in compressor suction piping should be installed in horizontal pipe.

If temporary strainer is required,a breakout spool shall be provided in suction piping,and instrument taps and branch pipe should not be provided in the spool.

5.9.4 Vibration analysis shall be made for suction and discharge piping of reciprocating compressor,and the inherent frequency of the piping shall be kept away from the inherent frequency of the air column in piping and the excited frequency of the machine.

Where necessary,the following measures shall be taken:

a)Additional anti-vibration support shall be provided.

b)Pipe diameter shall be enlarged.

c)Additional impulse damper or orifice plate shall be provided.

d)Buffer shall be properly arranged to avoid the pipe length in resonance,and reduce the number of elbows.

5.9.5 The suction piping of reciprocating compressor should be sloped toward to suction knock out drum or manifold,and should be taken off the top of the manifold.

Piping of compressor inter-stage cooler and knock out drum should be sloped toward to knock out drum.

5.9.6 The suction and discharge piping of reciprocating compressor should be routed at ground level,and rigidity of pipe support shall be properly increased.

5.9.7 Forces and moments imposed on centrifugal compressor nozzles from their suction and discharge piping shall comply with the manufacturer's requirements or API Std 617.

5.9.8 Layout of the suction piping for centrifugal compressor shall be designed to facilitate uniform distribution of fluid,a straight pipe shall be provided between the elbow of inlet suction piping and compressor nozzle flange,and the length of straight pipe shall meet manufacturer's requirements.

5.9.9 If centrifugal compressor is designed to have both suction nozzle and discharge nozzle upward or have the suction nozzle located at the side and the discharge nozzle upward,a breakout spool should be provided respectively.
